We’ve been talking a lot about “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” here at MTV News. And who can blame us? The early buzz on the film is not just good, it’s great. The stars are equally excited about it and each other, the trailer is as engaging as its soundtrack, and we have only a few weeks to wait for its release.

Speaking to the early buzz and enthusiastic fans, Logan Lerman was recently rendered speechless upon meeting one of the film’s supporters: music legend Sir Paul McCartney.

“I had to present the movie for this screening out in New York, and Sir Paul was there, and it was probably one of the coolest moments of my life,” Lerman told MTV News during the Toronto International Film Festival. “I got to meet him, and he was complimenting the movie, and it was so crazy, because I was like, ‘You’re the most influential musician alive!’ ”

Well, he didn’t actually say that, but he was thinking about saying it.

“What did I say to him? He was talking to me most of the time, and I got really nervous. I said, ‘Yeah, but you wouldn’t tell me the truth if you didn’t like it, right?’ ” he recalled with a laugh. “[I thought] ‘This isn’t really happening.’ He said, ‘No I just would have left really quick, man, I just would have got out of here.’ ”

No matter his nerves, Lerman did manage to express his gratitude for McCartney’s compliments.

“I said something like, ‘You’re an inspiration,’ and he was really sweet, a really nice guy.”

In The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Logan Lerman stars as Charlie, a high school freshman who finds solace in a group of friends after struggling with depression and his painful past. When we visited the set last year with a few other reporters, we chatted with Lerman about taking on the role of the sensitive protagonist, what it was like to work with costar Emma Watson (who also shared her thoughts about the movie), and how the film had to differ from the novel.

Stephen Chbosky, the director, said he knew he had found his Charlie when he met you. What made you understand the character so well?
Logan Lerman: I guess I was very similar to Charlie in many ways, growing up, and I just really responded to the material. Yeah, it was just an instant understanding, and I just knew I had to play the part.

In what ways did you feel similar to Charlie?
LL: I guess with his awkwardness and trying to figure things out in that time period and how to socialize and fit in. I guess I wasn’t as naive as him, but I definitely had the morals that he had, so it kind of . . . I don’t know. I really can’t explain it very well . . . I’m just very similar to him, I guess. A lot of situations in the script have actually happened to me in real life, so I just connected with it.

What is it like working with Emma Watson?
LL: She’s great. She’s really a great person and easy to work with and a fantastic actress. [I am] a big fan of Harry Potter. Yeah, it’s really exciting to see her outside of the series and what she’s able to do. She’s not only pulling it off, but she’s blowing people away with her performance.

How does the movie differ from the book?
LL: It’s different. They definitely had to trim out some of the details and then make it a little bit neater for the movie, I mean, just to fit it into a film. But, you know, Steve Chbosky — who wrote the novel, wrote the script — was directing it, so it’s very true to the book, and I think the fans of the book are going to be really happy with what Steve has created.

Do you add any narrative at all, the way the book adds its narrative?
LL: Yeah, yeah, yeah. There’s definitely some narrative voice-over and all that.

Putting the book on film inherently provides an alternate perspective from just what Charlie sees. How do you think that affects the story?
LL: It’s definitely a different perspective. It’s a different story in itself, because you’re telling it from that point of view. Seeing it from this point of view definitely changes the story, but Steve keeps it really true to what the book is.

Is there a lot of crying on your part in this movie?
LL: There’s definitely a little bit of crying. It takes me a long time to get into that mind-set, so it’s a lot of preparation. A lot. But yeah, [there are] miserable days of shooting when you have to do that, stay in that mode.

Music is a big part of the book. Have you listened to the music in it?
LL: Oh, yeah. What Steve did, which was really nice, was, in the beginning of filming, he gave us a CD of all the songs in chronological order of where they’re placed in the movie. So he has the CD for the movie, so that we were able to tune into what the tone is at certain times in the story and understand the feeling that he was trying to convey on screen.

Coming off the Oscar-winning Black Swan, director Darren Aronofsky could have done anything, so after dropping The Wolverine, he decided to build an ark. He’s currently shooting Noah, the Biblical tale of a man who builds an ark to save life on Earth after receiving a message from God. Russell Crowe plays the title role but he’s joined by Logan Lerman, Jennifer Connelly, Ray Winstone, Emma Watson and Anthony Hopkins. It’s scheduled for release March 28, 2014 and after the jump you can see some new set photos.

Noah is currently filming on Long Island according to On Location Vacations.

How do you relate to your Perks character? How do you differ?
I enjoy writing and music like Charlie does, but honestly I don’t feel that we’re very similar. That’s actually what made this role so interesting for me. I’m definitely not as introverted or neurotic as Charlie! He is very naïve. I don’t think I was like that at that age.

What was the first book that you felt had a deep impact on you? What was the most recent that’s had a similar effect?
I’d have to say The Giving Tree, it was such a simple but profound book. The Great Gatsby too. I recently read David Sedaris’s When You Are Engulfed in Flames.

Douglas Booth and Logan Lerman have joined the cast of Darren Aronofsky’s Noah. They’ll appear opposite Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly and Saoirse Ronan in the Paramount Pictures film.

Noah is a close adaptation of the Biblical story of Noah’s Ark. In a world ravaged by human sin, Noah is given a divine mission: to build an Ark to save creation from the coming flood. The screenplay was written by Aronofsky and Ari Handel and revised by Academy Award-nominated screenwriter John Logan.

Booth will play Noah’s son Shem with Logan Lerman playing another son, Ham.

Emma Watson is also in talks to join the film as a young woman who develops a close relationship with Shem.

Noah is set for release on March 28, 2014.
